YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE A VICTIM! Rape is a violent crime which is something you or others should not experience. However, when a rape occurs, we should not accept it as "fate" or "bad luck" as most cases can be prevented through taking the following steps: Be alert to your surroundings especially in dark and quiet places Portray confidence while walking Make sure other female passengers accompany you while travelling along in public transport Be watchful when someone is suspiciously hanging around public facilities such as toilets. etc Be alert while walking to your car in an open or indoor car park Always check your car before getting in It is not wise to use the lift when you are alone Do not accept invitations from strangers whom you have just got to know Inform your family about your plans; where you are going, with whom, and what time you will be back Learn martial arts or self-defence for your own protection When you return home, have your door key ready so that you can enter without delay Avoid shortcuts through parks, vacant lots and other deserted places Children should be encouraged to talk with their parents if they ever have a problem, not only with a stranger but also with a friend or relative Never pick up hitchhikers For more information, click here. |
